Explore the intersection of art and nature with sociologist Dennis Burnette, with a sound experience by Kelly Abbe and Angela Miller

Wild Ones @ SECCA is a four-part conversation series exploring the relationship between our health and the health of our planet through the written word, sound, and visual art. This series is presented in partnership with the Central North Carolina chapter of Wild Ones, and in conjunction with SECCA's current exhibition, Lauren Strohacker: Old Red, I know Where Thou Dwellest.

For the second installment of Wild Ones @ SECCA, sociologist Dennis Burnette, founder of the Carolinas Butterfly Society, will discuss the importance of protecting and attracting these beautiful pollinators. Following the discussion, Kelly Abbe and Angela Miller from Sacred Harmony: Center for Wellbeing will perform a centering sound experience inviting connection with the natural world.

ABOUT DENNIS BURNETTE
Mr. Dennis Burnette is a retired college professor currently volunteering as a nature educator, focusing on birds, butterflies, and native plants. He does numerous presentations and field trips for nature organizations, master gardeners, garden clubs, church groups, scouts, etc. He is active in and has held elected office in several nature organizations. Founded the Carolina Butterfly Society of North and South Carolina about 25 years ago. Past president of local Audubon Society chapter and currently on the local Audubon board. He has looked for native plants and other wildlife in 11 countries. Recently he received North Carolina's Order of the Longleaf Pine in recognition of volunteer service to the state.

ABOUT KELLY ABBE AND ANGELA MILLER
Ms. Angela Miller and Ms. Kelly Abbe are the founders of the Sacred Harmony Center for Wellbeing, a holistic wellness center based in Winston Salem, NC.

Angela Miller is a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (LCMHC), providing mental health therapy to children, adults, and families. She is trained in several holistic energy healing modalities including Reiki, Vortex Healing, Energy Psychology, Emotional Freedom Techniques, Mindfulness, and Guided Meditation. Throughout her career, she has always put an emphasis on nature as being a powerful tool for healing the mind and body.

Kelly Abbe is a sound and energy practitioner.She facilitates the Harmonic Egg sessions. The Harmonic Egg is a sacred geometric chamber that envelopes a person with sound, color, and light therapy. It creates an optimal state for mind and body, so that healing happens naturally. Kelly has always had a passion for environmental conservation. She is an avid gardener who prioritizes native plants and heirloom vegetables in her garden and landscaping.

Prior to becoming a business owner, Kelly worked for the Chesapeake Bay Foundation, an environmental non-profit organization devoted to the restoration and protection of the Chesapeake Bay in the United States.

Angela and Kelly discovered Wild Ones in early 2022 and knew immediately that they wanted to be involved in locally promoting environmentally friendly and responsible landscape practices through education and community outreach. Their mission in both business and volunteer work emphasizes the concept of our interconnectedness to the environment, which promotes wellness for all life.
